Step-by-step solution

(a) The terms go up by \(9\) each time, so the \(n\)th term is \(9n + c\). Since the first term is \(11 = 9(1) + 2\), the rule is \(9n + 2\).

(b) Set \(9n + 2 = 335\): \(9n = 333\), so \(n = 37\).

Answer: (a) \(9n + 2\)
(b) \(n = 37\)

Same structure, different numbers

A question is hard because of its structure, not its surface.

Swap the constants, dress a quadratic as a length, hide a derivative inside an integral, and a student sees a brand new problem. The structure underneath is the same, and so is the method. Once a student can name the structure, a whole row of questions that look different start to open the same way.
